Surabhi Has a Heifer Calf

Surabhi, a Guernsey, had a heifer calf Friday June 8th. Mother and daughter are fine and together in the temple barn.

Surabhi was also the name of one of the first Brown Swiss cows purchased by New Vrindavana community back in the early ’70s when the herd first started to expand seriously. She had been mistreated by her previous owners and was a phenominal kicker, both to the back and the side. She could send you across several stalls or against a wall before you knew what had hit you. You had to always approach her from one side only, and NEVER make any moves around her head. But she was a great mother for her calves.
